Take a deep dive into therapy. There are times when one 45-minute session per week isn’t enough. Intensives can be:
• One three-hour session, or
• Eight hours a day for three days …
and everything in between. This can be useful if you are coming from out of town, or need more time to process your story, or simply want to speed up the process. There are also times when an intensive isn’t appropriate because it might be too, well, intense. We will talk through what is best for you at this time.
Intensives give us more space to look at where you come from (family dynamics, issues passed down over generations, the ways you coped), where you are (current struggles and relational patterns), and where you are going (goals for the future and steps you need to take to get there). We can focus on one or all three of these categories, depending on how much time we have. I often use experiential therapy in intensives, including drawing, family genograms, a timeline of important events in your life, psychodrama, movement, and other ways of allowing you to see differently and engaging your body in the therapeutic process.
